The UNIDAD DE PREVENCION INTERNATIONAL, UPV was originally conceived as a traveler’s clinic in 1994, but later dedicated mostly towards the concept of adult vaccination. From the beginning it was obvious the lack of knowledge about adult vaccination and interest on this matter. Personal in training and more striking, admittedly well-trained colleagues who served on different specialties and subspecialties at a tertiary care hospital where I practice were barely aware on existing vaccines for adult and the elderly population. At UPV we perceive vaccination as another act in medicine, another procedure, and certainly we believe it should be a state of mind and fully aligned with the mission of any health institution, whereas dedicated to diagnostics, therapeutics or preventative services, whether it is a small health unit serving a small community, a medical office or a major hospital dedicated to various fields in medicine.
